1. Individualized Education Program is a plan that is developed to help meet the needs of each student with special needs and/or disabilities. It is a plan that is to be a collaborative process including the parents and students teacher to ensure that it will be implemented. If implemented properly the student can benefit greatly. During implementation if the plan is not working then another collaborative meeting will need to be set up to readjust the IEP. The IEP is designed to help each student with disabilities to be able to benefit to the max in a “normal” classroom. It is important that key people in the students life be a part of the collaborative team. This helps to make sure that the child’s needs are going to be met. This is an important part of IDEA.
2. A nondiscriminatory evaluation is set up to find out the areas that the student needs help. It is meant to be free of cultural, language setbacks, and to look past stereotypes. The hardest part of implementing this component is the language barriers. Any evaluation to assess the child’s disability is a key part of finding out where the problems lie. This is an important part of the diagnosis process. This evaluation should be performed by someone who can remain objective throughout the whole process. During the evaluation process it can be hard for some to remain objective, but it is important to the process. This is an important part of IDEA.
3. A least restrictive environment deals with the educational setting that the student is put it. It is looking out for the best needs of the student to ensure that they can reach their fullest potential. It helps to give them an advantage in conquering their disability. It is set up to help with the continuum of services. It makes sure that the student’s needs are being met in the “normal” classroom as well as a special needs classroom. Children with special needs and disabilities often need special accommodations in the classroom to help them focus on learning better. These accommodations can be included in the IEP to ensure that they are being carried out. This is an important part of IDEA.
