Section #1: Teaching Learning Disabilities
This section contains the basic information about this site. It is a starting point with a plethora of information. Making connections and building a community is the target of this section. There is the expert connection. This part is where teachers can ask expert professionals in the field questions they may have. It provides information and helps make connections.
This is a great section where you can get a summary of information that is going on. You don’t have to be a member to get some of this information. The best part of this section is the connections it helps you link to. As a teacher this will be great in finding out the basics of what is going on. It doesn’t require a membership, but it is just a broad sense of what is going on.
Section #2: Understanding Learning Disabilities
This section is about just what the title says. It goes into detail about Learning Disabilities. Knowing more and having that information is awesome. There are so many families and teachers that have to deal with students with disabilities. Learning disabilities encompass so many different aspects of learning. It has a really wide range.
As teachers, we will get such a wide range of students in our classroom. Unfortunately, there could be a percentage of students that just aren’t making the mark. They are being classified with learning disabilities and quite possibly getting extra help through Title 1. Through my field experience in another class, this fact has been brought to a reality. About 1/4th of the 1st grade class leave the classroom daily for extra help with a learning disability.
This section of the website really helps to keep people, parents, and teachers informed. It also covers learning disabilities at different age ranges. It provides an excellent source of information.
Section #3: Teaching How-to’s
This section of the website provides several articles about enhancements and adaptations. This is another great section with lots more information. This is a free part that provide articles to those who are interested in expanding their knowledge base.
As a teacher, articles are our friends. Articles keep current teachers up to date with the latest information that is out there. This section has some great articles in how to better your skills as a teacher. These articles are great resources in how to deal with an exceptional student in your classroom. Having a child that is constantly beyond grasping the basic concepts can be discouraging as a teacher. You don’t want any of your students to fail, but there are those who fall through the cracks because they just don’t score low enough on evaluations. These articles are there to provide encouragement and an aid to teachers that need that extra boost. They help you as a teacher know what to do with those students and how you can better help them.
Section #4: Learning Disability Resources
Another great aspect to this website is learning disability resources for parents and teachers. The information provided goes in depth into how to deal with learning disabilities. These are teacher’s guides into dealing with learning disabilities in the classroom. The resources go beyond articles and are more focused approaches to dealing with students.
As a teacher, having resources accessible is extremely important. They are a type of connection that aid teachers in staying up to date with the most current techniques. It helps with current research, reports, and lesson plans. The information provided on this site can help teachers help the parents. Parents need support; especially in areas they may not be as familiar with. Sometimes teachers are the only source of information they will have. So, keeping up to date on current information and techniques is in everyone’s best interest.
Section #5: Become a Member
This is where you can join as a member. This section provides a community for support. It goes a whole lot further into providing information to those who may want it. There is a fee for membership. You can join as a parent, student, teacher, professional, etc. This is a membership to be a part of the Division for Learning Disabilities, which is part of the Council for Exceptional Children. It is a professional international organization that is seeking to better those who work directly with students with exceptionalities.
This is an important section for teachers who want to go beyond the norm and really seek some help. We all need support around us as teachers. Support can prove to make or break us. This member’s only section offers multimedia teaching tutorials from top professionals in the field of education and who specialize in children with exceptionalities. This is a great resource for any teacher in a classroom.
